Stabat Mater

Die Stabat Mater is 'n 13de-eeuse Christelike lofsang aan Maria, wat haar lyding as Jesus Christus se moeder tydens sy kruisiging uitbeeld. Die skrywer daarvan kan óf die Franciskaan Jacopone da Todi, óf Pous Innocentius III wees.^{[1] [2] [3]} Die titel is ontleen aan die eerste reël, "Stabat Mater dolorosa", wat beteken "die hartseer moeder het gestaan".^[4]

Dié gesang word as deel van die liturgie vir Maria gesing en is al deur baie Westerse komponiste getoonset.
